The 2019 turtle’s season is almost here and during the second week of July, the Reserve will officially start the beach night monitoring for the protection of sea turtles.
If you live in the Costa Ballena area and want to join the night monitoring, we invite you to participate in any of the two workshops that will be held at the Reserva Playa Tortuga station, on July 1st and 2nd, from 5 to 7 pm. On July 1 st the workshop will be in English and on July 2nd, will be in Spanish.
Some of the topics that will be discussed are: sea turtles biology, species, beach monitoring protocol, nesting sea turtles management and hatchery work.
If you really want to participate during the beach monitoring, please assist to this workshop and help us to keep protecting sea turtles. Please note that the beach night monitoring is for adults only. We will wait for you!
Hello – I am visiting the Costa Ballena in September and am interested in witnessing sea turtles through an approved organisation. Do you do tours?
Hello Anne, thanks for contacting us. For turtles releases we post public announcements in our Facebook Page , so everybody is welcome, but the announcement is only a few hours before the release. If you would like to know the reserve and what is done here, you can contact us directly on rptojochal@gmail.com or visit our station at Playa Tortuga, Ojochal. There are some tours (night tours, around the forest, etc.) but they need to be arranged in advance, as it depends on the biologists availability, but through the email you can arrange that. I hope it helps. Have a nice day!
