Reserva Playa Tortuga

Work & Free Time

RPT requires that you volunteer 5.5 days for every week you stay and 6 hours each day. Volunteers may choose to work more hours and may select which projects they would prefer to work on.  Spaces are limited, especially on the turtle project, no more than 8 people may be patroling at once (Couples may not always be able to work together).

During a volunteer’s free time, there are many tours and activities (at volunteer’s own cost) in the area to choose from: surf lessons, horseback riding, zipline tours, photography lessons, hiking, waterfalls, local beaches, snorkeling and diving among many others.

Ojochal also has many restaurants, a supermarket, pulperias, shops and bars in walking distance of the Reserva.

There are also buses to Uvita, Dominical, Quepos and to the rest of Costa Rica and Panamá (we are 2.5 hours from the border).

Osa Canopy

There are 9 cables, 11 platforms, 2 repelling stations, 2 suspension bridge, and an amazing “tarzan” swing for the truly adventurous! Start your journey on the 800-acre private reserve that includes primary and secondary humid tropical rainforests. Once you begin, your bilingual guides will teach you much about the Osa in a fun and informative manner along the way. You will be able to tell that they are extremely knowledgeable about the area but they also know how to keep you safe with the first-rate gear, climbing methods, and other maneuvers so you can enjoy soaring hundreds of feet above the jungle.

The best part about the tour is that the ecology of the area is not disturbed in any way. The architect of the platforms and designer of the Osa Canopy Tour – Jose Manuel Pizarro – used a technology that allows the platforms to grow along with the trees. He used an eco-friendly technology that required no screws or nails (into trees) when constructing the tour so everybody can appreciate the natural beauty with a minimum of disruption to the natural surroundings.
